Issue One: Average BSR of Top Listings Greater than Sample Average BSR

Average BSR: The average BSR of products within the sample range in a specific market, based on recent data.

Top Listings Average BSR: The average BSR of top-performing listings within a specific market, based on recent data.

Taking the number of listings as the top 100 in sales and the number of top listings as the top 10 in sales:

Average BSR: Assuming the total BSR sum of the top 100 products in recent times is 5000, then the average BSR is 5000/100 = 50.

Top Listings Average BSR: Assuming the total BSR sum of the top 10 products in recent times is 200, then the average BSR is 200/10 = 20.

*Recent refers to the most recent update time of sample product data in the market selection (updated every 1-2 days).

When BSR values are smaller, it indicates higher product rankings and correspondingly higher sales. Therefore, generally, the average BSR of top listings is expected to be lower than the sample average BSR.

If a situation arises where the average BSR of top listings is greater than the sample average BSR, it could be due to the following reasons:

img

1. Market research utilizes sample ASINs from a category that has undergone category changes, leading to changes in sample data for category nodes.

For example: ASIN B082RYQQSR was a top listing in the Bed Blankets category in December:

2020-12 Home & Kitchen › Bedding › Blankets & Throws › Bed Blankets

2021-01 Home & Kitchen › Bedding › Blankets & Throws › Weighted Blankets

2. Significant fluctuations in BSR averages of individual top listings, influenced by certain objective factors.

For example, ASIN B082RYQQSR:

2021-01-20 BSR=306;

2021-01-21 BSR=2,240,014;

Within just one day, there was a significant change in BSR ranking, while the calculation of average BSR for top listings utilized recently updated BSR values. This results in abnormal display of average BSR for top listings.

Issue Two: Significant Variation in Monthly Total Sales When Viewing Data for the Same Sub-Market in a Short Period

Monthly Total Sales: The total sales of all products within the sample range over the past 30 days.

For example, for the sub-market Bed Blankets, the monthly total sales queried on two consecutive days were 415,840 and 249,630 respectively.

Reason:

In the Market Research feature, most indicators are either interval values (such as sales in the past 30 days) or values that change slowly (such as price, review count, ratings, etc.). However, BSR rankings are values that change rapidly at a specific point in time.

If a particular ASIN had very high sales in the past 30 days but suddenly experiences a sharp decline in sales one day, its BSR ranking would rapidly drop, leading to a rapid increase in its BSR value. This would result in a relatively large average BSR calculated. Consequently, this would affect the sales prediction for that ASIN and further impact the overall sales variation of the sample data.
